So about a year ago, veteran comic artist John Byrne (famous for definitive turns on Fantastic Four, Superman, and X-Men) started to write and draw a bunch of new X-Men comics just for fun. Marvel was interested in publishing but he opted instead to run them on his own website as fan fiction. It’s all a bit roundabout but the upshot is that there’s now five out of twelve or so full issues from a major creator returning to the property where he really made his name - and the interesting thing on top of that is the conceit that these new issues pick up from when he originally left the book in 1981. The new comics are also pencils only, which gives a pretty fascinating glimpse into the working process of a skilled comics craftsman.
I’m having trouble pasting the links from my phone, but I’ll try to do it from my laptop later.
